Menopause and Midlife

The Menopause and Midlife Centre offers a specialist appraisal of a woman’s changing health as her body becomes less fertile and she produces less oestrogen.

Specialist care is also available to younger women who experience the unique difficulties of premature menopause.

Understanding the process of the menopause transition can reassure and affirm a woman who may be troubled by a drop in mood, broken sleep and irritating hot flushes. A ‘warrant of fitness’ provided by a careful history and thorough physical examination provides opportunity to enhance overall health. It also allows the doctor and nurse to inform the women about treatment options that are relevant and useful. Diet, physiotherapy, herbal and other complementary medicines are evaluated along with hormonal therapy if appropriate.

An invitation to reflect on the psycho-social aspects of a woman’s life is encouraged and respected as she comes to terms with a new era in her life. Good literature and websites are available to allow every woman to be fully informed about recent developments in menopausal management and relevant research in areas of hormone replacement and other therapies.

Doctor Catherine Black, General Practitioner with a special interest in menopause medicine and Doctor Catherine Conway, Endocrinologist, offer their expertise as menopause specialists.
