Post Graduate Training/Experience:

John graduated in Medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) in 1995. After completing his House Officer placements and working in Australia, he pursued a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He completed his specialist training in the North-East of England and moved to Christchurch in October 2006 as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Christchurch Women’s Hospital.

Special clinical interests:

John is trained in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His principal clinical interests are in the management of urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse and he previously worked as the Senior Registrar at the Urogynaecology unit in Newcastle upon Tyne, one of the UK’s leading centres for such problems. Other interests include the management of early pregnancy problems, such as miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. John has also received additional training in Gynaecological ultrasound and has a particular interest in ultrasound assessment of the pelvic floor and vaginal prolapse.

Professional profile:

John is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. In 2007 he established the early pregnancy assessment clinic, to improve the service for women suffering a miscarriage. He has also been the principal specialist at the hysteroscopy clinic, where abnormal bleeding is investigated. John has presented at a number of national and international conferences on subjects including colposcopy, endometrial cancer, ovarian cysts, endometrial ablation and early pregnancy problems. He is also keenly interested in medical education and is an instructor for the “Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics” and “Practical Obstetric Multi-professional Training” courses.

Personal profile:

John’s wife, Kylie, is a Nursing Tutor at CPIT, and they have two children; Edwin and Elia.
