Oxford-Ethicon Fellowship In
Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery

The Senior Gynaecologists at Oxford Clinic hold a strong conviction that skills in advanced endoscopic surgery should be taught and practiced in a dedicated endosurgical facility.

In 2003 they developed a training Fellowship concept and with the enthusiastic support of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, agreement from the Ministry of Health and Medical Council, a joint venture partnership was established with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Christchurch Women’s Hospital.

The “Fellow” is appointed to the position for an initial twelve month attachment with extension for a second year if warranted. The Fellow is funded partially by the partners at Oxford Clinic Women’s Health, by an annual grant from Ethicon and “Ethicon Endosurgery” Divisions of Johnson & Johnson Medical and by a pro rata salary from Canterbury District Health Board.

The Fellowship was launched by the then Minister of Health, The Hon. Annette King, in 2003 and has achieved both National and International acknowledgement.

During the tenure of the Fellowship the incumbent gains training and practical experience in advanced endoscopic gynaecological surgical techniques. The Fellow also has the opportunity to undertake research projects, publish and present at International meetings. The Fellow works within the private health sector as arranged by Oxford Clinic Women’s Health Clinicians and has scheduled clinical duties at Christchurch Women’s Hospital.

Former “Fellows” are now Senior Consultants working within Oxford Clinic Women’s Health.
