Hospital DischargeIn most cases your specialist will visit you prior to your discharge to review your progress and discuss with you an appropriate plan for your discharge from Oxford Clinic Hospital. If the specialist is not able to visit you prior to your discharge he will discuss discharge arrangements with the nurse caring for you. Specialists normally visit their overnight patients between 8am and 10am the following day; however this can vary depending on their schedule. Discharge is not at a set time but is coordinated to accommodate clinical requirements and patient preference. The nursing staff will provide you with clear written information and verbal instructions on what to do following your discharge. This will include providing you with any prescriptions for pain relief, and/or other medications as well as any wound care instructions. Your specialist will send a letter to your General Practitioner outlining your hospital treatment and any follow-up care recommended. If a follow up appointment is necessary this will be made for you with your specialist and the details will either be given to you at the time of your discharge or posted to you. This appointment will take place at your specialist’s consulting rooms. If at any stage of the discharge process you are unsure of any information or instructions you have been given, or you would like additional information about your procedure or operation or subsequent follow-up care, please do not hesitate to ask the nursing staff or your specialist. When you are ready to leave Oxford Clinic Hospital the nursing staff will assist in contacting the person you have nominated to collect you. They will be requested to come to the hospital floor on Level 3. We strongly recommend that you do not take a taxi or any form of public transport home. Please note that patients must not drive for 24 hours following a General Anaesthetic or sedation or after cataract surgery. We strongly recommend that you arrange for a responsible adult family member or friend to stay with you for your first night at home after your operation. Please note that you will not need to settle your account at the time of discharge.
