Endoscopy

What is an Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is an internal examination using a flexible tube with a tiny video camera on the end. Types of endoscopy include Gastroscopy (stomach), Colonoscopy (large bowel), Sigmoidoscopy (the lower end of the large bowel known as the Sigmoid colon), Bronchoscopy (lungs) Laparoscopy (abdomen), and Arthroscopy (joints such as knees).

Why would I need an Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a relatively simple, non invasive way to look inside the body to enable a specialist to gather valuable diagnostic information.

How do I know if I need an endoscopy?

Your GP will be able to inform you if an endoscopic procedure is appropriate and can provide you with a referral to see a specialist.
