What is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is surgery in the mouth. Most Oral Surgeons have first studied dentistry and then completed at least five years of additional medical and surgical training. At Oxford Clinic, Oral Surgery for day stay procedures are carried out by Mr. Robert Begg.

Why would I need to have Oral Surgery?

Some of the more common reasons are:
Removal of uninterrupted and impacted teeth eg wisdom teeth or prior to orthodontic treatment
The management of oral pathology which includes the management of infection, cysts and lumps and lesions in the mouth.

Dental implants – these are used to replace teeth. The Oral Surgeon is involved in placing the implant in the jaw bone while the Dentist provides the crown which screws into the implant.

What is the process for referral to an Oral Surgeon?
